Emergency Broadband Benefit
The Emergency Broadband Benefit is a temporary Federal Communications Commission (FCC) program to help households struggling to afford internet service during the pandemic. As of May 12, 2021, eligible households will be able to apply and enroll in the program to receive a monthly discount off the cost of broadband service from an approved provider. Eligible households can enroll through an approved provider or by visiting GetEmergencyBroadband.org. To learn more about the program or to become a partner visit www.fcc.gov/broadbandbenefit. ABC (Alabama Broadband Connectivity) FOR STUDENTS
The state will be sending out voucher letters to families across Alabama who are eligible to receive free services for high-speed Internet access. Voucher letters could be received as early as Monday, August 24, 2020, for eligible K-12 students who participate in the National School Lunch Program for free or reduced-priced meals. Only one letter should be received per household. These vouchers can be used by the parents to obtain services through December 30, 2020 initially and then extended to June 30, 2021. On March 31, 2016, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted a comprehensive reform and modernization of the Lifeline Program. In the 2016 Lifeline Modernization Order, the Commission included broadband as a support service in the Lifeline program. Through these affordable services for qualifying low-income households, consumers can complete homework, access ebooks and online textbooks, explore career options, search for jobs, apply to 2- and 4-year colleges, bank and pay bills online, get news, and much more.
